Description
(copied from the forum)
I upgraded my hardware to a 4gb ram and 4 core AMD processor, but the real problem is the video card. The motherboard I bought has an ATI Radeon HD 4250 and I can't get a picture to show. It starts to boot, shows the splash screen then goes to a black screen where nothing works. I can't even switch to terminal using control-alt-F1 (F2, F3, nor F4).
Weirdness is, if I select the option in the GRUB options to boot without the splash screen, can get a picture over the HDMI connection but the brightness fades in and out.
Any suggestions?

ATI support is very poor in general and often does things like you described.
The only solution is to wait for ATI to write better drivers.
