LinHES (Linux Home Entertainment System) is a Linux distribution loosely based on "ArchLinux":http://www.archlinux.org/, that centers around "MythTV":http://www.mythtv.org/.
"MythTV":http://www.mythtv.org/ designed for Home Theater PC (HTPC) use. The expressed goal of this project LinHES is to make creating and maintaining a Home Theater PC as simple as possible.
A blank system can be transformed provide an appliance feel to a fully functional HTPC in around 15-20 minutes.
Thats only 20 minutes to have a system that is capable of:
* Watching & recording television
* Pausing live tv
* Playback of DVDs and most popular video formats
* Retrieve fanart and information about your videos
* Jukebox supporting multiple audio formats
* View images
* Get the latest news & weather
* Play Games
h2. Why choose LinHES? HTPC.
We feel the product should work more like an appliance and not require alot of upkeep, but at the same time add artificial limits.
Most of the system configuration, configuration and operation and in some cases even installs of LinHES can be accomplished using only a via your remote control.
However if your Users can go from a person that likes blank system to tinker a fully functional MythTV system in 15-20 minutes. LinHES makes use of [[MythVantage]] for easy configuration and work directly with modification. The Service Menu accessible from the OS that option is still available. All the configuration wizards MythTV GUI where users can be disabled to avoid overwriting custom work.
Expanding a LinHES cluster to mutliple systems takes even less time to setup then configure most of the main system. During the install all relevant settings system from their couch via the main system are synced with the new remote frontend. No need to worry about trying to remember file locations or other settings, it's all done automatically making for a nice consistent system. control.
